  • Answer:

    No, this logger is rated IP61 which means it's dust tight and protected from occasional dripping water.  This assumes that the USB cover is firmly installed and that the terminal strips are not exposed to moisture.

    We do have some customers using these outside by placing them in a protective housing or zip lock bag.  Even though most have good results using it this way it does void the warranty as it is going beyond what it is designed for.

    Lascar makes another thermocouple logger that is rated at IP67.  This will withstand the effects of immersion from 15cm to one meter for up to 30 minutes.

    The overall measurement range of the logger itself is -200°C to +1300°C however the Type K thermocouple it comes with is rated for 0°C to 200°C.  If you need to monitor something beyond that range you will need to use a different thermocouple.  The logger can work with Type K, J, and T thermocouples which are widely available through us and other sources.

    The body of the logger can be used in temps ranging from -10°C to 40°C but keep in mind that the battery life will be reduced when using the logger at the lower or upper end of those ranges. 

    The included thermocouple should work fine for your application measuring liquid up to 205°F but be aware that only the tip of the stainless steel probe should be submerged in liquid.  If the junction of the stainless steel and cable is exposed to moisture it will have a negative impact on the accuracy and eventually shorten the life of the probe.

    Yes, you can use any thermocouple you would like with this logger.  While the included type k is not long enough for your application you can purchase any other thermocouple we sell or through a 3rd party supplier to use with the logger.  You want to just make sure whatever you purchase comes with a mini plug or you can also repurpose the plug that comes wired to the sensor included with the logger.  They are very easily removed and attached.
